Lawrence swept by 23rd-ranked Pointers

    RHINELANDER, Wis. -- The Lawrence University softball team dropped a pair of nonconference games to No. 23 UW-Stevens Point on Friday at the Hodag Dome.
    Stevens Point pulled away late to win the opener 5-1, and the Pointers took the nightcap 10-2 in six innings.
    In the first game, the Pointers scored three times in the bottom of the sixth to secure the win. 
    Lawrence (0-2) cut Stevens Point's lead to 2-1 in the fifth inning when Taylor Hughes singled to drive in Gillian Guerriero. The Pointers got a solo homer to lead off the sixth and added a two-run double in the inning to pull away.
    Avery Chilson started for the Vikings and allowed five runs on seven hits. She struck out three and walked three. 
    In the second game, Lawrence grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first when Zoe Doherty walked and Mattigan Haller belted a two-run homer. Stevens Point (7-1) responded with four runs in the bottom of the first against starter Georgia Sedlack. Sedlack allowed five runs on seven hits over four innings. 
    Stevens Point added a run in the third and another in the fifth before closing the game out with four runs in the sixth.
