DAVENPORT, Fla. -- The Lawrence University started its spring break trip to Florida on Friday with a shutout, but the Vikings settled for a doubleheader split with Maritime College at Northeast Regional Park.
Lawrence posted a 12-0 win in the opener, and Maritime took the nightcap 13-5.
In the opener, the Vikings rode a two-hit pitching performance from
Elden Santana. He went the distance, struck out nine and walked two. Santana didn't allow a runner past second base and retired the last 15 Maritime batters in order.
 Â
Shane Santaga went 3-for-4 with two doubles, three runs batted in and a run scored for Lawrence (3-5).
CJ Filipek was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and
Tate Hartlaub drove in three runs for the Vikings, who piled up 11 hits.Â
Filipek's two-run double staked the Vikings to a 2-0 lead in the opening inning, but Lawrence quickly added to its advantage. Santaga started a five-run second inning with a two-run double, and Hartlaub's sacrifice fly gave the Vikings 5-0 lead. An error on Filipek's ground ball later in the inning allowed two more runs to score, and Lawrence led 7-0.
The Vikings tacked on three more runs in the third with the help of RBI doubles from Santaga and Hartlaub. Lawrence finished the scoring with two more runs in the sixth.
In the second game, Maritime jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first and picked up a grand slam in the third to pull away.
  Hartlaub, Santaga and
Edan Perez all had two hits for the Vikings, who finished with 11 hits in the contest. Filipek drove in two runs, and Hartlaub scored twice.
 Â
Nick Katz had a rough start as he allowed four earned runs on seven hits over 2.1 innings and took the loss. Joe Sorge gave up four runs over five innings to get the win for Maritime (7-8).
