DAVENPORT, Fla. -- The Lawrence University baseball team took advantage of its opportunities Saturday night and picked up a 5-2 win over Purchase College at Northeast Regional Park.
Four Lawrence pitchers combined to limit the Panthers to three hits, and the Vikings capitalized on four Purchase errors.
 Â
Edan Perez went 2-for-3 with a homer and a run batted in, and the Vikings finished with four extra-base hits in the contest.Â
  Rookie pitcher
Nathan Zumbrunnen went five innings to get the win and improve to 2-0 on the season. Zumbrunnen allowed two hits and two runs, struck out five and walked five.
Cam Ruth tossed a scoreless sixth,
Josh Moosey posted a pair of scoreless innings and
Shane Foley worked the ninth for his second save of the season.
Purchase (4-8), part of the State University of New York system, took a 2-0 lead in the third, but Lawrence (4-5) tied it in the fifth. A pair of errors helped
Tate Hartlaub make his way to third base, and
Taylor Freeman's sacrifice fly cut the lead to 2-1. Perez then smacked his third home run of the season to tie the game at 2-2.
Lawrence got a rally started in the seventh when
Myles Brincks doubled to right field. Hartlaub reached on an infield single, and a throwing error allowed Brincks to score for a 3-2 Lawrence lead.
The Vikings then tacked on a pair of big insurance runs in the top of the ninth.
Shane Santaga's one-out double got the rally started, and Brincks reached on a throwing error that also allowed Santaga to score. Hartlaub's sacrifice fly brought Brincks home and Lawrence led 5-2.
Foley worked around a one-out walk in the ninth by getting a game-ending double play to pick up the save. Â
