Lawrence can't dig out of early hole against Scots

CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Lawrence University softball team fell behind early and wasn't able to claw its way back in an 11-3 loss to Macalester College on Friday at Hancock Park.
The Scots closed out the game in five innings.
Zoe Doherty went 2-for-2 with a homer, scored twice and drove in one run for the Vikings (2-6). Georgia Sedlack had a tough start for the Vikings as she allowed eight earned runs on nine hits.
For the second consecutive game, Doherty gave Lawrence a 1-0 lead when she blasted a solo homer in the first. Macalester (11-4) scored twice in the first, added two more in the second and pulled away with five runs in the third.
Lawrence pulled to within 9-3 when Mattigan Haller belted a two-run homer in the fifth. Macalester then closed out the game with two runs in the bottom half of the inning.
