CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Lawrence University softball dropped a 6-1 nonconference decision to Clarkson University on Friday in the Vikings' spring break opener at Hancock Park.
  Clarkson scored in four consecutive innings, and the Vikings committed four errors in the loss.

Taylor Hughes went 2-for-4 in the lead-off spot, and
Zoe Doherty homered for the Vikings (2-5).

Avery Chilson went the distance for the Vikings. She allowed five earned runs on nine hits, struck out five and walked two over seven innings.
  Lawrence grabbed the early led when Doherty belted a solo homer in the bottom of the first inning for a 1-0 advantage. Clarkson hit a two-run homer in the top of the third for a 2-1 lead, and the Golden Knights added two more in the fourth for a 4-1 lead.
  Clarkson (5-7) tacked on single runs in the fifth and sixth for the final margin.
  Devin Fitzpatrick allowed six hits over seven innings to pick up the win.
