APPLETON, Wis. -- Eight Lawrence University swimmers and divers have been chosen for the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team.
  Four women and four men earned a place on the team, which honors stellar students who are also major contributors to their team. To be eligible for the team, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore, have a minimum 3.5 cumulative grade point average and participated in a minimum number of competitions.
  On the women's side,
Abigail Herrick,
Stella Macfarlane and
Irina Starostin were all honored for the second time, and
Olivia Martin was chosen for the first time.Â
  Herrick (Kenosha, Wis./Indian Trail) is a senior and a double major. Herrick, who has a 3.96 grade point average, is majoring in biology and clarinet performance. She is a member of the Academic All-Midwest Conference team and Chi Alpha Sigma, the National College Athlete Honor Society. Macfarlane (Edina, Minn./Edina) is a senior and a double major. She is majoring in biochemistry and biology with a 3.93 grade point average. Macfarlane also is a member of the Academic All-Midwest Conference team and Chi Alpha Sigma.
  Starostin (Dallas, Texas/Booker T. Washington) is a senior and a Russian studies major with a 3.63 grade point average. A multi-time All-Midwest Conference performer and Midwest Conference Swimmer of the Week, Starostin is a member of the Academic All-Midwest Conference team and Chi Alpha Sigma. Martin (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich./Sault Area) is a sophomore and was honored for a first time. She is undecided on a major and has a 3.71 grade point average. Martin also is a member of the Academic All-Midwest Conference team.
  The men's team features two swimmers chosen for the second consecutive season.
Keegan Mencke and
Michael Thorson are both two-time honorees, and
Jackson Bertman and
Wiley Curtis were chosen for the first time.
  Mencke (Midlothian, Va./Clover Hill) is a senior and double major in mathematics and physics with a 3.92 grade point average. An All-Midwest Conference performer and Midwest Conference Swimmer of the Week, Mencke is a member of the Academic All-Midwest Conference team and Chi Alpha Sigma. Thorson (McFarland, Wis./McFarland) is a senior economics major with a 3.74 grade point average. He is a member of the Academic All-Midwest Conference team and Chi Alpha Sigma.
  Bertman (Alexandria, Va./Thomas Edison) is a junior majoring in classical civilizations with a 3.61 grade point average. A three-time Midwest Conference Diver of the Year and four-time conference champion, Bertman also is a member of the Academic All-Midwest Conference team. Curtis (Sydney, Australia/Port Hacking) is a sophomore with a 4.0 grade point average. Curtis, undecided on a major, is an All-Midwest Conference performer.
