GRINNELL, Iowa -- Lawrence University diving standout Jackson Bertman made it a clean sweep in the diving competition when he took the title on the 1-meter board Saturday at the Midwest Conference Championships.
    Bertman posted a school-record score of 471.70 to win the 1-meter title for the third consecutive year at Osgood Pool. He defeated St. Norbert College's Owen Pittenger, who was second at 463.60. Bertman, who won the 3-meter competition on Friday and now has five MWC diving titles to his credit, also broke his own school record. Bertman's score was an NCAA "B" cut and topped his record of 442.90.
    Will Phillips turned in the other top individual performance for the men as he took fourth in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:42.91. Lawrence's 200 medley relay team of Bertman, Juan Navarette, Keegan Mencke and Michael Thorson took eighth in 1:57.05.
    The Lawrence men are in fifth place in the team standings with 237.5 points, and Grinnell College is first with 646.5.
    Irina Starostin led the Lawrence women by placing sixth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 58.26 seconds. Olivia Martin grabbed fifth place in the 3-meter diving with a score of 224.60. The women's 200 medley relay team of Zoey Zieger, Stella Macfarlane, Kiran Jayasinghe and Lilly Lum took sixth in 1:55.61. 
    The Lawrence women are in fifth place in the team standings with 195 points, and Grinnell leads the way with 596.
