LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- The Lawrence University softball team fell 12-6 to Illinois College in its opening game at the Midwest Conference Tournament at Lake Forest College.
    Illinois College scored 11 runs in the opening four innings to pull out to a big lead. 
    Jordan Wallin-Swanson went 2-for-2 with a double for the Vikings. Mattigan Haller tripled and scored twice, and Taylor Hughes drove in two runs for Lawrence (19-20).
    Avery Chilson allowed eight runs on 10 hits over 2.1 innings and took the loss for the Vikings. 
    Lawrence got a run in the first on Wallin-Swanson's RBI double, and Hughes drove in two runs in a four-run fifth for the Vikings.
    Lawrence now faces Grinnell College in an elimination game on Friday.
