Vikings take down Augsburg

    DE PERE, Wis. -- The Lawrence University volleyball team finished the Chick-fil-A Invitational with a 3-1 nonconference victory over Augsburg University.
    Lawrence topped the Auggies 25-23, 23-25, 25-22, 25-19. The Vikings went 3-1 over the two-day events, also notching wins over the College of St. Scholastica and Hamline University.
    Hazel Cook and Margaret Hahnke had 13 kills apiece to pace the Vikings. Hahnke also had a team-best 16 digs and picked up two aces. Rookie Alayna Geiser added 10 kills and 10 dogs for the Vikings. 
    Setter Ally Corrente picked up 37 assists to go with 13 digs for Lawrence. Aria Wessel added 14 digs for the Vikings, and Amanda Vlkovic picked up 13.
    Lawrence trailed 15-12 in the opening set, but the Vikings rattled off five consecutive points to grab a 17-15 advantage. Augsburg came back to take a 23-22 lead, but the Auggies committed two attack errors to give Lawrence a 24-23 lead. Audrey Weier's kill then closed out the first set for Lawrence.
    Augsburg won the second set, but Lawrence took control midway through the third set. With the set tied at 11-11, Lawrence scored four consecutive points for a 15-11 edge. The Vikings kept Ausburg at arm's length for the rest of the set and a 2-1 lead in the match.
    Lawrence had a four-point scoring run early in the fourth set to take an 11-7 edge. The Vikings later scored five straight points for a 20-13 lead and then closed out the match on a Cook kill and a pair of errors by the Auggies.
    Hahnke also was chosen for the all-tournament team. Hahnke hit .258 over the four matches and piled up 71 kills, an average of 4.73 per set. Hahnke, who had eight aces, also collected 67 digs, an average of 4.47 per set.
