APPLETON, Wis. --
Ava Elders scored twice Wednesday to lead the Lawrence University women's soccer team to a 2-1 nonconference win over Marian University on Ron Roberts Field at the Banta Bowl.
Elders scored in the first two minutes, and then tallied the game-winner with less than eight minutes left to deliver the win.
Elders got Lawrence on the board at the 1:30 mark when she stole the ball from Marian goalkeeper Chelsea King right in front of goal and punched the ball into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
The score stayed that way until Brianna Guelig scored in the 50th minute to tie it at 1-1.
Elders later picked the pocket of a Marian defender and had a breakaway to the goal. With King coming out to challenge the Lawrence player, Elders rifled the ball past the Marian goalkeeper for a 2-1 lead with 7:32 remaining.
Lawrence (2-2-1) was able to kill off the final minutes of the match to secure the win.Â
  Lawrence goalkeeper
Ella Lysne made six saves for the Vikings, and King stopped three shots for Marian (3-1-1).
The Vikings return to action Friday when they host Elmhurst University.
