Noonan's goal lifts Vikings to tie with Whitewater

APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University women's soccer team battled to a 1-1 tie on Wednesday with UW-Whitewater in a nonconference match on Ron Roberts Field at the Banta Bowl.
Kate Noonan's goal at the 57:41 mark tied the match at 1-1 and it remained scoreless the rest of the way. Both teams had scoring chances down the stretch but neither could cash in.
Whitewater (3-2-3) grabbed the early lead after the Vikings (2-2-4) missed on a prime scoring opportunity when a shot deflected off the post. The Warhawks scored after taking a corner kick in the 37th minute. The initial shot hit the crossbar, but Summer Curtis put in the rebound at 36:06 to give Whitewater the lead.
The Vikings then scored in the aftermath of a corner kick in the second half. Lawrence took a corner kick, and the Warhawks were whistled for a handball in the box while trying the clear the ball.
Noonan stepped up and buried the shot in the corner of the net to tie the match at 1-1.
Lawrence goalkeeper Ella Lysne made several outstanding saves and finished with six saves on the evening. Whitewater goalkeeper Jude Dobrinska, who also made one big save in the match, finished with five saves.
Lawrence returns to action on Saturday when the Vikings travel to Loras College.
