Vikings streak past Rockford

APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University volleyball team rebounded from a slow start Wednesday to post a 3-0 nonconference victory over Rockford University at Alexander Gymnasium.
Lawrence downed the Regents 25-22, 25-18, 25-11 as part of the Lawrence Triangular. Lawrence has now won five matches in a row, which is the longest streak since the Vikings won five straight back in 2016.
The Vikings used a balanced attack as Audrey Weier, Hazel Cook and Margaret Hahnke picked up 10 kills apiece. Hahnke added a team-best nine digs and a match-high four aces. Weier hit .563 for the match with 10 kills and just one error in 16 attempts. The Vikings hit .304 for the match.
Ally Corrente directed the offense and posted a match-high 37 assists. She also collected a match-high five blocks.
Alayna Geiser picked up four kills and eight digs, and Chania Tinch had six kills for the Vikings. Amanda Vlkovic and libero Aria Wessel had seven digs apiece for Lawrence (5-1).
Lawrence trailed 18-11 in the opening set, but Hahnke got the serve and was critical in a 6-0 Lawrence run to trim the lead to 18-17. Rockford bounced back to score the next two points for a 20-17 edge. Lawrence then rattled off four straight points with help from kills by Weier and Tinch for a 21-20 lead.
Rockford scored the next point to tie it at 21-21, but the Vikings scored four of the next five with Cook's kill as set point.
Lawrence hit its stride and jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the second set and cruised a two-set lead. In the third set, Lawrence put together a 5-0 run and later scored six of seven to take command and close out the match.
The Vikings return to action with three matches at the University of Chicago Invitational this weekend.
