GRINNELL, Iowa — Lawrence fell to Grinnell College, 96-74, in a Midwest Conference matchup on Saturday at Darby Gym. The Vikings recorded 10 steals and 26 bench points but were unable to overcome Grinnell's 10 three-pointers and 28 points from the free-throw line.
The first half began with Lawrence establishing a quick lead through a 3-pointer by
Nathan Valentine and a free throw from
Casey Schoenecker. Their defense forced multiple turnovers, including a steal by
Hogan Demovsky, leading to a fast-break jumper by
CJ Campbell. Midway through the half, the Vikings maintained their edge with a combination of perimeter shooting and fast-break opportunities, highlighted by a 3-pointer from Valentine and layups from
Nicholas Gouriotis and
Caleb Nash.
As the half progressed, Lawrence continued to trade baskets with Grinnell, with
Nicholas Gouriotis contributing crucial points in the paint. Grinnell capitalized on Lawrence's turnovers, extending their lead to 52–42. The Vikings responded with a layup from
