Vikings fall on the road to Redhawks

RIPON, Wis. — Lawrence University (9-6, 2-4 Midwest Conference) fell to Ripon College (3-13, 3-4 Midwest Conference) 83-67 on Tuesday night at Weiske Gymnasium.Ā

Lawrence initiated the first half with a focus on inside scoring, notably accumulating 18 points in the paint. Despite early challenges with shooting from beyond the arc, the team managed to keep the game tight, thanks to contributions from Nicholas Gouriotis, who added two crucial 3-pointers. Defensive efforts included 14 defensive rebounds, which helped to limit Ripon's second-chance points.

Momentum shifted midway through, as Lawrence closed the gap with a series of successful layups and a timely 3-pointer by Hogan Demovsky. The Vikings took a brief lead when Caleb Nash converted a free throw with 47 seconds left. However, the Red Hawks regained the edge with a late 3-pointer, concluding the half with a narrow 30-29 lead over Lawrence.

Lawrence opened the second half with an assertive layup by Casey Schoenecker, quickly regaining the lead after trailing slightly. Nathan Valentine followed up with a 3-pointer assisted by CJ Campbell, establishing a narrow advantage early in the half. Despite trading leads, Lawrence maintained pressure with continued scoring, highlighted by Demovsky's 3-pointer and Nolan Koch's successful drive and free throw that brought them within one point.

As the half progressed, Lawrence's offensive efforts, including fast-break points by Cameron Nash, kept the score competitive. However, Ripon's consistent shooting, particularly from beyond the arc, allowed them to regain control. In the closing minutes, a few turnovers by Lawrence and strategic free throws by Ripon extended the home team's lead. The half concluded with Campbell sinking a 3-pointer, closing the gap slightly, but ultimately theĀ Redhawks would pull out the victory.Ā
