Vikings top Sabers to extend winning streak

APPLETON, Wis. — Lawrence University (6-9-0) defeated Marian University (3-8-1), 4–2, at home. Lawrence's goaltender recorded 42 saves to secure the win.

Lawrence started the first period with a solid defensive effort, but the Sabres took an early lead at 17:45, with Edison Weeks scoring an even-strength goal assisted by Dayne Tews and Eemil Rautio. Lawrence quickly responded during a power play when Ethan Beaumont scored at 16:56, leveling the score at 1–1 with assists from Luke Robertson and Cody Brekke.

As the period progressed, both teams exchanged missed opportunities, but the Vikings gained momentum. The home team took the lead at 00:54 with an even-strength goal by Cade Dewolf, assisted by Roman Cherniak and Beaumont. Lawrence ended the period ahead, 2–1, after capitalizing on their scoring chances and maintaining defensive composure.

Lawrence capitalized on a critical opportunity late in the second period. After successfully defending two power plays, with Collin Lemanski making key saves, Lawrence turned momentum with an even-strength goal at 4:32. Cherniak found the back of the net, assisted by Ethan Look and Jayden Jensen, extending Lawrence's lead to 3–1.

Throughout the period, Lawrence's defensive efforts, including blocked shots by Jensen and Kenny Sutton, thwarted multiple attempts from the Sabres. Lawrence closed the period maintaining their two-goal advantage, setting up the final period with a 3–1 lead.

Lawrence extended its lead in the third period with a goal from Carter Cloutier at 11:16, assisted by Look and Cherniak, bringing the score to 4–1. Lawrence's defense remained robust, with Lemanski making key saves to thwart Marian's offensive attempts.

The Sabres managed to narrow the gap with an extra attacker goal by Andrew Politoski at 2:02, assisted by Noah Pickart and Andrew Seminara, reducing Lawrence's lead to 4–2. Ultimately it would not be enough and the Vikings would go on to secure the victory.Ā
