Lawrence Track & Field Opens Indoor Season at NCC Cardinal Opener

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The Lawrence University men's and women's track and field teams opened the 2026 indoor season Friday night at the NCC Cardinal Opener, hosted by North Central College, with several strong performances across sprints, jumps, and throws.

Men's Highlights

In the field events, freshmanĀ Peyton MuellerĀ delivered an impressive collegiate debut in theĀ high jump, clearingĀ 1.88 metersĀ to finishĀ second overall. Mueller also contributed in theĀ long jump, placingĀ fifthĀ with a mark ofĀ 6.37 meters.

JuniorĀ Leo HagbergĀ turned in a solid day in the horizontal jumps, finishingĀ sixth in the long jumpĀ (6.08m) andĀ fourth in the triple jumpĀ with a best leap ofĀ 12.56 meters. SeniorĀ Tristan ZookĀ added aĀ seventh-place finishĀ in the long jump (6.06m).

On the track, Lawrence sprinters competed in deep fields. SeniorĀ Tristan ZookĀ posted a time ofĀ 7.30 secondsĀ in the men'sĀ 60 meters, while juniorsĀ Marcus JacksonĀ (7.47) andĀ Brendan CrossĀ (7.48) also represented the Vikings. SophomoreĀ Parker WittmayerĀ recorded a time ofĀ 7.69Ā in prelims.

In theĀ 200 meters, Cross led Lawrence with a time ofĀ 24.28 seconds, followed closely by freshmanĀ Benjamin Baldwin(24.31) and Jackson (24.74).

The throws group saw multiple Vikings score solid marks. FreshmanĀ Connor SkarstenĀ placedĀ fifth in the shot putĀ with a throw ofĀ 12.62 meters. JuniorĀ Jack McLaughlinĀ added anĀ 11.02-meterĀ effort in the shot put and later finishedĀ seventh in the weight throwĀ with a mark ofĀ 13.26 meters. FreshmanĀ Corbin SchneiderĀ andĀ JC ArochoĀ also gained valuable meet experience in the throwing events.

Women's Highlights

The Viking women were led by an outstanding performance from freshmanĀ Jacqui Malm, who claimedĀ first place in the high jump, clearingĀ 1.50 metersĀ to open her collegiate career on the top step of the podium.

In the sprints, freshmanĀ Izzy BaumgardtĀ advanced to the finals of theĀ 60 meters, finishingĀ fifth overallĀ with a time ofĀ 8.49 seconds, and later added aĀ ninth-place finishĀ in theĀ 200 metersĀ (29.06). JuniorĀ Morgan CrossĀ placedĀ seventh in the 60-meter finalsĀ (8.65) and finishedĀ fourth in the long jumpĀ with a mark ofĀ 4.66 meters.

FreshmanĀ Jorja MillerĀ competed in both the 60 and 200 meters, posting times ofĀ 8.83Ā andĀ 29.34, respectively.

In the women'sĀ triple jump, seniorĀ Anna Vanden AckerĀ earned aĀ third-place finish, recording a mark ofĀ 9.20 meters.

The throws group was paced by freshmanĀ RyLeigh Truchon, who placedĀ third in the shot putĀ with a throw ofĀ 9.91 metersĀ and later finishedĀ fifth in the weight throwĀ (10.48). Fellow freshmanĀ Alease McLainĀ added aĀ fourth-place finishĀ in the shot put (9.64m) and anĀ eighth-place showingĀ in the weight throw (8.71m). SophomoreĀ Greta Viandenrecorded aĀ 9.71-meterĀ mark in the weight throw to place sixth.
