MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – The Lawrence University women's track and field team wrapped up the Midwest Conference Outdoor Championships on Saturday with multiple all-conference performances, school records, and conference honors.
Elena Hartung capped a breakout championship weekend by being named the Midwest Conference Newcomer of the Year after earning a pair of all-conference finishes and breaking her own school records in both hurdle events.
Hartung placed second in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.32 before adding another runner-up finish in the 400-meter hurdles at 1:04.91. Both performances lowered the school records she had already set earlier this season.
Lillian Courtnage-Dyke also earned all-conference honors in the women's 10,000 meters with a third-place finish in 38:05.91 before adding another strong performance in the women's 5000 meters with a fourth-place finish at 18:07.18.
Mila Westra added two strong performances for the Vikings in the distance events, placing seventh in the women's 1500 meters in 4:49.78 and sixth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:22.58.
Gaby Skorczewski added another top-four finish for Lawrence in the women's 400 meters, placing fourth overall in 1:01.01.
Lawrence also turned in one of its strongest event group performances of the meet in the women's pole vault as Clara Lyford finished third at 2.50 meters, Rachel Fleck took fourth at 2.20 meters, and Paige Barry added a fifth-place finish at 2.20 meters to give the Vikings three top-five finishers in the event.
Anna Vanden Acker and Greta Vianden rounded out the Viking highlights in the field events. Vianden grabbed a sixth-place finish in the javelin at 30.57 meters, and Vanden Acker was seventh in the triple jump with a season-best leap of 9.97 meters.
