Vikings roll Buccaneers in home win

APPLETON, Wis. — Lawrence University (13-4, 6-2 Midwest Conference) defeated Beloit College (5-12, 2-6 Midwest Conference), 81-66, at Alexander Gym, supported by a 33-point third quarter. The Vikings forced 25 turnovers and capitalized with 22 points off those turnovers.

Lawrence opened the game with a strong defensive presence, converting opponent turnovers into eight points. The team maintained control in the paint, matching Beloit's six inside points while also capitalizing with four fast-break points. Josie Eager and Sophie Morey contributed crucial baskets, including a tip-in and a layup, respectively, which helped establish an early lead.

In the latter part of the quarter, Lawrence continued to apply pressure, forcing seven turnovers from Beloit. Charlotte Brennan and Kate Adams provided key assists, with Adams also adding to the score through successful free throws. The quarter concluded with Lawrence extending their lead to seven points, finishing 16–9.

Lawrence maintained their lead with timely shooting and defensive stops in the second quarter. Adams initiated momentum with a fast-break 3-pointer at 9:27, extending the lead. Eager added another 3-pointer shortly after, supported by Brennan's assist. Lawrence capitalized on turnovers and second-chance opportunities, with Morey's free throws and jumpers further extending the lead to 28–17.

Beloit countered with a series of successful 3-pointers and free throws, narrowing the deficit. Despite Beloit's 24-point effort in the quarter, Lawrence's consistent scoring and defensive rebounds helped maintain a slim lead. The quarter concluded with Lawrence leading 34–33, heading into the next quarter.

Lawrence opened the third quarter with a strong defensive and offensive effort, quickly establishing control. Josie Chose and Morey contributed to a 12-point run that set the tone, with Chose hitting a key 3-pointer at 7:27. The team's defense was particularly effective, forcing a series of turnovers and capitalizing on them with fast-break points.

Brennan and Adams kept the pressure on Beloit, with Brennan assisting on several key plays, including a fast-break layup by Olivia Kesti at 7:01. Lawrence's bench added 12 points, maintaining momentum throughout the quarter. As the quarter closed, Lawrence extended their lead significantly, finishing ahead 67–42.

Lawrence started the fourth quarter by extending their lead with steady free-throw shooting from Chose, who converted both attempts at 9:40. Abby Talbot assisted Chose on a layup at 8:28, pushing the score further in the Vikings' favor. Despite turnovers, Lawrence maintained control with crucial defensive stops, including Maggie Jarzemsky's timely steal at 3:31.

Beloit attempted to rally with a series of 3-pointers, narrowing the margin. However, Lawrence continued to capitalize on free-throw opportunities, with Emma Moya and Kylie Loomis each adding to the score. Avery VanDellen sealed the quarter with a 3-pointer at 0:15, ensuring Lawrence's lead and another home win for the Vikings.
