Gouriotis drops career high 27 in electric home win over Redhawks

APPLETON, Wis. — Lawrence (11-9, 4-7 Midwest Conference) secured a 75-71 victory over Ripon College (4-17, 4-8 Midwest Conference) on Thursday night at Alexander Gym. The Vikings, which led by two at halftime, were bolstered by converting 12 three-pointers on 21 attempts.

The game opened with Lawrence establishing an early lead, highlighted by Nicholas Gouriotis' three-pointer at 18:39, assisted by Hogan Demovsky. The Vikings maintained the momentum with a fast break three-pointer by Demovsky at 15:43, extending their advantage. Led by strong perimeter shooting, they converted nine of 14 from beyond the arc. Ripon countered with a scoring drive mid-half, narrowing the gap with contributions from Seth Bunders and Kolby Williams. The home team responded with another three-pointer from Gouriotis at 9:43, maintaining a slender edge over the visitors. The half saw six lead changes and five ties, illustrating a closely contested battle.

As the half progressed, Lawrence secured the lead with a crucial dunk by CJ Campbell at 48 seconds, assisted by Caleb Nash. The home team finished the first half ahead, 46–44, setting the stage for a competitive matchup.

The second half began with a highlight from Lawrence as Demovsky sunk a 3-pointer, assisted by Nash, maintaining their momentum. Lawrence's defense was effective, with Casey Schoenecker grabbing multiple defensive rebounds and blocking shots, which helped to limit Ripon's scoring opportunities. Midway through the half, Lawrence went on a scoring run, highlighted by Gouriotis's 3-pointer at 10:57, extending their lead. Nolan Koch contributed to the offense with successful jumpers, while the team collectively converted free throws to maintain their advantage.

Ripon attempted to close the gap with a couple of 3-pointers and fast-break points, but Lawrence managed to hold their lead. The half closed with the Vikings leading 75–71, as they held off Ripon's late efforts with key defensive plays and free throws by Gouriotis.

This is the first win over Ripon since the 2011-12 season when the Vikings swept the regular season match up.
