Vikings grab multiple podium finishes in Day 2 of Midwest Conference Championship

GRINNELL, Iowa — The Lawrence women's track and field team closed the Midwest Conference Indoor Championships on Day 2 with several strong finals performances, highlighted by a podium finish in the hurdles and key scoring efforts across sprint, distance, relay, and field events.

Elena Hartung delivered one of the standout performances of the weekend, finishing 2nd overall in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.41 to secure major points for the Vikings. In the 400 meters final, Gaby Skorczewski placed 4th in 1:01.06 and Elena Hartung placed 7th in 1:02.50, both running strong championship races to contribute team points.

In the 800 meters final, Mila Westra placed 4th in 2:19.61, pacing herself in a competitive championship field. Westra would also compete in the Mile where she would finish 5th overall in the field with a time of 5:14.96.

Lawrence also scored in the women's distance medley relay, where Lillian Courtnage-Dyke, Clara Lyford, Faith Onukaogu, and Laura Henze contributed to a 3rd-place finish in 12:55.45. The podium effort added significant points in one of the championship's premier events. In the distance finals, Lillian Courtnage-Dyke continued her strong weekend by placing 2nd in the women's 5000 meters (17:53.41), competing through a competitive field for valuable points. She would also compete in the women's 3000 meters where she placed 4th overall with a time of 10:20.34

On the track, Jorja Miller, Gisselle Reyes, Izzy Baumgardt, and Morgan Cross combined in the women's 4x200 relay final to finish 6th against a stout conference field. In the 4x400 relay final, the Vikings' quartet of Gaby Skorczewski, Faith Onukaogu, Clara Lyford, and Mila Westra ran to a 5th-place finish in 4:15.12, closing out the meet with another scoring effort.

In the field events, Jacqui Malm and Ashlee Long each placed 7th in the high jump with marks of 1.40 m (4-7), and Anna Vanden Acker placed 7th in the triple jump with a best mark of 9.75 m, adding to the Vikings' team total. Morgan Cross also competed in the long jump with a mark of 4.38 m.

The Vikings would finish 5th overall in the field with a team score of 71
