MOLINE, Ill. — The Lawrence University baseball team rallied from an early deficit but ultimately fell to Hope College 19–10 in a high-scoring contest Friday afternoon.
Hope jumped out to an early lead, scoring nine runs in the first inning and adding three more in the second to take a 12–2 advantage.
The Vikings responded with a strong offensive push in the second inning. Sage Beebe-Jenny started the rally with an RBI double before AJ Desantiago followed with a run-scoring single. William Zatkowski drove in another run after being hit by a pitch, and Ben Gutowski delivered a two-run single to cut the deficit to 12–7.
Lawrence continued to chip away at the lead. Myles Brincks drove in a run in the third inning, Beebe-Jenny added a sacrifice fly in the fourth, and CJ Filipek blasted a solo home run in the fifth to bring the Vikings within two runs at 12–10.
Hope regained control in the seventh inning, scoring four runs to extend the lead and add insurance runs in the eighth and ninth to secure the victory.
Desantiago led the Lawrence offense with three hits and three runs scored. Gutowski added three hits and two RBIs, while Brincks drove in three runs. Beebe-Jenny finished with two hits and two RBIs, and Filipek contributed two hits including a home run.
Lawrence totaled 14 hits in the contest but could not overcome Hope's 21-hit performance.
