Vikings Explode for 18 Runs in Rout of Eureka

MOLINE, Ill. — The Lawrence University baseball team erupted offensively Friday morning, scoring in five different innings and breaking the game open with a massive fifth inning on the way to an 18–3 victory over Eureka College.

Lawrence finished with 15 hits and drew 10 walks as the Vikings improved to 2–4 on the season.

The Vikings struck first in the opening inning when CJ Filipek drove in Sage Beebe-Jenny on a fielder's choice to make it 1–0. Lawrence added another run in the second as Dyson Sharpton doubled to bring home William Zatkowski.

Lawrence extended the lead in the third inning when Filipek launched a three-run homer, scoring AJ Desantiago and Beebe-Jenny to push the advantage to 5–0.

The game broke wide open in the fifth inning as the Vikings scored 10 runs on six hits. Nathan Depew delivered the biggest swing of the inning with a bases-clearing triple that plated three runs. Lawrence continued to pile on with RBIs from Tate Hartlaub, Filipek, Myles Brincks, William Zatkowski, and Depew during the rally.

Sharpton capped the scoring in the seventh inning with a three-run home run that scored Depew and Aeneas Pichardo, giving Lawrence its 18th run of the game.

Filipek powered the offense with five RBIs and two hits, while Depew finished with three hits and four RBIs. Sharpton also drove in four runs, and Zatkowski collected two hits and two RBIs.

On the mound, Malachi Ross earned the win, allowing two runs over four innings while striking out five. Julius Christensen followed with two innings of relief before Branson Kent closed out the game in the seventh.
