Neenah, Wis. – The Lawrence University men's tennis team opened Sunday's action against Edgewood University, falling 6-1 in nonconference play.
Edgewood claimed the doubles point with wins at all three positions. Benjamin Hoppe and Gabriel Garcia dropped a 6-1 decision at No. 1 doubles, while Owen Horton and Will Phillips fell 6-3 at No. 2. Will Lewis and Jonathan Myszka were defeated 6-3 at No. 3.
Lawrence's highlight came at No. 3 singles, where Owen Horton earned the Vikings' lone team point in dramatic fashion. After falling 6-3 in the opening set, Horton responded with a 6-3 win in the second before sealing the match with an 11-9 victory in the third-set super tiebreak.
Benjamin Hoppe battled at No. 1 singles but fell 6-3, 6-4. Gabriel Garcia (6-1, 6-3), Will Phillips (6-3, 6-4), Will Lewis (6-1, 6-4), and Jonathan Myszka (6-0, 6-4) competed in straight sets as the Vikings continued to battle throughout the day.
