Vikings Rally Late, But Fall to Pointers After Big Middle Innings

DAVENPORT, Fla. – The Lawrence University baseball team jumped ahead early and continued to battle late, but a pair of big innings from UW-Stevens Point led to a 10-5 loss Friday evening.

Lawrence found its rhythm in the fifth inning, turning a tight game into a lead. After Mychal Castillo reached and Nathan Depew worked a walk, Steven Baudendistel came through with a key single to move runners into scoring position. A wild pitch brought Depew home to tie the game, and Sage Beebe-Jenny followed with a sacrifice fly to give the Vikings a 2-1 advantage.

UW-Stevens Point answered quickly in the sixth inning, tying the game on a solo home run before adding two more runs on a two-RBI single to regain control.

The game broke open in the seventh, when the Pointers strung together five runs on timely hitting. Tyler Soule delivered a two-run triple, while Tino Ramirez and Nick Argersinger added RBI singles to stretch the lead.

Lawrence responded in the ninth inning with a late rally. Myles Brincks singled to start the inning, and Dyson Sharpton and Julius Christensen worked walks to load the bases. Baudendistel delivered again with a two-RBI single, and Beebe-Jenny added an RBI groundout to cap the scoring.

Baudendistel led the Vikings with two hits and two RBIs, while Beebe-Jenny added two RBIs. AJ Desantiago, Tate Hartlaub, Brincks, Sharpton, and Castillo all contributed hits as Lawrence totaled eight on the day.
