AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Lawrence University baseball team showed flashes offensively but couldn't overcome a big middle-inning surge, falling 9-3 to Amherst on Saturday afternoon.

Lawrence put together a solid day at the plate with nine hits, highlighted by multi-hit performances from Steven Baudendistel and Sage Beebe-Jenny. Beebe-Jenny sparked the offense with two hits and an RBI, while William Zatkowski delivered a key two-run double to account for much of the Vikings' scoring.

After Amherst jumped ahead early, the Vikings continued to compete and found a breakthrough late in the game. Lawrence plated two runs in the sixth inning, with Beebe-Jenny driving in a run and Zatkowski bringing home another to cut into the deficit. Nathan Depew added a hit and later came around to score as Lawrence continued to apply pressure.

On the basepaths, Beebe-Jenny was aggressive, swiping two bases, while AJ Desantiago and Ben Gutowski also recorded stolen bases to keep Amherst's defense on edge.

Malachi Ross got the start on the mound, with Jake Watkins and Brady Dilworth providing relief work. Dilworth closed strong, tossing a scoreless final inning to limit further damage.
