CLERMONT, Fla. – The Lawrence University softball team stayed competitive throughout but fell 4-1 to Wooster on Friday at Legends Park.
Wooster struck first in the opening inning, taking advantage of an early Lawrence error to grab a 1-0 lead. The Vikings responded by settling in defensively behind Georgia Sedlack, who kept the game close through the early innings.
Lawrence threatened in the fourth inning when Zoe Doherty delivered a triple down the right field line, putting the tying run within reach. However, Wooster escaped the inning and maintained its lead.
The game turned in the bottom of the fourth as Wooster put together a three-run inning. Cate Barkdoll drove in a run with a single, Ella Wolff followed with an RBI hit, and Sage Lammlein added another to push the lead to 4-0.
The Vikings continued to compete and broke through in the seventh inning. Avery Chilson singled to start the rally, and Lillian Guidry followed with an RBI single to right field to score Shelby Rozak for Lawrence's lone run.
Guidry led the offense with two hits and an RBI, while Doherty added a triple and Chilson contributed a hit as part of a four-hit effort.
Sedlack worked four innings in the circle, allowing just two earned runs while striking out five, and Chilson added two scoreless innings in relief.
