CLERMONT, Fla. – The Lawrence University softball team mounted a late rally but came up just short in a 7-5 loss to Buffalo State on Saturday.
Lawrence found itself trailing early but refused to back down, putting together a strong push in the final innings. Gillian Guerriero led the offense with a perfect 2-for-2 performance, scoring twice and reaching base four times.
Avery Chilson contributed both in the circle and at the plate, driving in a run while working four innings as the starting pitcher. Shelby Rozak added an RBI hit, and Lillian Guidry also drove in a run as the Vikings chipped away at the deficit.
The Vikings began to break through in the fourth and fifth innings before mounting their biggest threat in the seventh. Lawrence plated multiple runs in the final frame, including contributions from Rozak and Isabella Alfaro, to pull within striking distance.
Kylan Arndt provided a strong effort in relief, limiting Buffalo State over the final three innings and giving Lawrence an opportunity to rally.
