DAVENPORT, Fla. – The Lawrence University baseball team rallied late but came up just short in a 7-6 loss to Oberlin on Sunday afternoon.
Lawrence showed resilience throughout, breaking through in the fourth inning when Malachi Ross drove in a run to get the Vikings on the board. After being held quiet early, the offense came alive in the sixth inning with a four-run surge to take the lead.
Dylan Keelan delivered a standout performance at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs to power the Vikings' offense. Nathan Depew added a key RBI double, while Steven Baudendistel also drove in a run as Lawrence capitalized on opportunities to build its advantage.
Ben Gutowski provided a spark on the basepaths, scoring twice and reaching base multiple times, while Myles Brincks crossed the plate as part of the Vikings' big inning.
Oberlin responded with timely hitting, using a three-run fourth inning and adding runs in the fifth and sixth to regain the lead.
Conner Robertson went the distance on the mound for Lawrence, striking out six over six innings while keeping the Vikings within reach throughout the game.
Lawrence added a run in the seventh and continued to apply pressure late, but the comeback effort fell just short.
