Hilton Head, S.C. — The Lawrence University men's tennis team ran into a strong Oberlin squad on Monday, falling 7-0 in a nonconference matchup.
Oberlin took control early by sweeping all three doubles matches to secure the opening point. The No. 1 duo of Gabriel Garcia and Benjamin Hoppe dropped a 6-1 decision, while Owen Horton and Will Phillips fell 6-0 at No. 2. At No. 3 doubles, Will Lewis and Jonathan Myszka battled but came up short 6-3.
In singles play, the Yeomen continued their momentum, winning all six flights in straight sets. Hoppe competed at the top spot, while Garcia followed at No. 2, but both were unable to break through against Oberlin's lineup. Horton at No. 3 and Phillips at No. 4 also faced tough matchups, while Lewis and Myszka rounded out the lineup at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.
Despite the final scoreline, the Vikings continued to gain valuable experience against a deep Oberlin team as they progress through their spring schedule.
