Mount Vernon, Iowa — The Lawrence University baseball team battled throughout but came up just short in a 10-9 loss to Cornell College on Saturday.
The Vikings showed resilience at the plate, scoring in multiple innings and building a late push, including a four-run seventh inning that kept them within striking distance.
Sage Beebe-Jenny highlighted the offense with a home run and two RBIs, while CJ Filipek drove in three runs. Boris Christensen added two RBIs, and Lawrence drew 10 walks as part of a disciplined offensive approach.
On the mound, Nathan Zumbrunnen delivered a strong start, allowing just one run over six innings. However, Cornell rallied late, using a big seventh inning and late-game offense to secure the win.
Despite outhitting Cornell's early pitching and showing consistent offensive production, the Vikings were unable to contain the Rams' late surge in a tightly contested conference matchup.
