Mount Vernon, Iowa — The Lawrence University baseball team fell 7-2 to Cornell College in the series finale on Sunday afternoon.
The Vikings opened the scoring in the second inning, as Boris Christensen delivered an RBI single to bring home Myles Brincks and give Lawrence an early 1-0 lead.
Cornell responded immediately in the bottom half of the inning, capitalizing on traffic on the bases before Garrett Roehl delivered a three-run double to highlight a four-run frame that swung momentum in favor of the Rams.
The hosts continued to add on with single runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, building a 7-1 advantage.
Christensen accounted for both Lawrence runs, adding an RBI after being hit by a pitch in the ninth inning. Dylan Keelan led the Vikings at the plate with two hits, while Lawrence totaled seven hits in the contest.
On the mound, Malachi Ross took the loss after allowing five runs over four innings. Max Huddleston and Liam Shackleton combined to cover the final four innings in relief, with Shackleton tossing 2.1 scoreless innings to close the game.
Lawrence continued to battle late, loading the bases in the ninth, but was unable to mount a full comeback as Cornell secured the conference victory.
