Vikings fall in tight contest to Spartans

APPLETON, Wis. — The Lawrence University men's lacrosse team came up just short in a back-and-forth contest Saturday afternoon at Banta Bowl, falling to the University of Dubuque 10–9.

Lawrence opened the scoring midway through the first quarter as Henry Fischer found the back of the net off an assist from Emmett Eischens to tie the game at 1–1. Fischer struck again just over two minutes later with an unassisted goal to give the Vikings a 2–1 lead heading into the second quarter.

The Spartans answered early in the second quarter, but Lawrence continued to respond. Judah Goehring scored on a feed from Eamon Tegenfeldt-Pfohman to even the score at 3–3 before Truett Jones added an unassisted goal in the final minute of the half to give the Vikings a 4–3 advantage at the break.

Dubuque surged in the third quarter with a five-goal period to take an 8–6 lead. Lawrence stayed within striking distance as Emmett Eischens scored unassisted and Fischer completed his hat trick on an assist from Brody Herr.

The Vikings mounted a late push in the fourth quarter. Brody Herr scored early in the period, and shortly after, Tegenfeldt-Pfohman finished a play set up by Herr to tie the game at 8–8. Dubuque responded with two goals to regain control, but Herr added his second goal of the game with 1:21 remaining to bring Lawrence within one.

Fischer led the Vikings with three goals, while Herr added two goals and two assists. Tegenfeldt-Pfohman recorded a goal and an assist, and Eischens also contributed a goal and an assist. Goehring and Jones each added a goal for Lawrence.

In goal, Tyler Graham recorded 13 saves for the Vikings. Lawrence finished with 36 shots in the contest compared to Dubuque's 42.
