DE PERE, Wis. — The Lawrence University women's tennis team pushed St. Norbert College in a tightly contested dual on Saturday afternoon at the Green Bay Tennis Center, with the Green Knights edging the Vikings 4–3.
St. Norbert grabbed the early lead in doubles play, winning two of the three matches to take a 1–0 advantage heading into singles. The Vikings' lone doubles point came from Anna Vanden Acker and Madelena Priest at No. 2 doubles, who earned a 6–3 victory over Alyssa Tegen and Anna Vechart.
St. Norbert captured the other doubles matches with Allison Unverzagt and Jordan Domnick defeating Clara Hills and Sky Shinohara 6–3 at No. 1, while Irene Multhauf and Ava Nankervis topped Rachel Pofahl and Maddie Bublik 6–1 at No. 3.
Lawrence answered with strong singles play, splitting the six matches to keep the dual close throughout the afternoon.
At the top of the lineup, Clara Hills battled through a three-set match to defeat Jordan Domnick 6–4, 4–6, 10–7 in a super tiebreaker at No. 1 singles. Anna Vanden Acker added another point for the Vikings with a solid 6–4, 6–3 win over Allison Unverzagt at No. 2 singles.
Rachel Pofahl also secured a victory for Lawrence at No. 4 singles, earning a 6–0, 6–3 win over Irene Multhauf.
St. Norbert claimed the remaining singles matches as Anna Vechart defeated Sky Shinohara 6–0, 6–0 at No. 3, Alyssa Tegen topped Maddie Bublik 6–3, 6–2 at No. 5, and Madeline Diefenthaler defeated Madelena Priest 6–1, 6–4 at No. 6 to secure the team victory.
