Lawrence Comeback Bid Falls Short Against Coe

DECATUR, Ill. — The Lawrence University baseball team battled back late but ultimately fell 9–5 to Coe College on Sunday afternoon.

Coe broke the game open in the third inning with a five-run rally highlighted by a three-run triple from Jack McMann that gave the Kohawks a 5–0 lead. The visitors added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to extend the advantage to 7–0.

Lawrence responded with a big swing in the sixth inning. AJ Desantiago blasted a three-run home run to left field, scoring CJ Filipek and Sage Beebe-Jenny to bring the Vikings within 7–3.

The Vikings continued their comeback push in the seventh inning. Dyson Sharpton scored on a throwing error, and Beebe-Jenny followed with an RBI single to make it a 7–5 game.

Coe added two insurance runs in the eighth inning to extend the lead to 9–5, and the Vikings were unable to close the gap in the final innings.

Desantiago led Lawrence offensively with three RBIs on his home run, while Beebe-Jenny recorded two hits and an RBI. CJ Filipek also added a hit and scored a run.

Lawrence used five pitchers in the contest, with Conner Robertson providing a solid relief outing by striking out six over three innings of work.
