DECATUR, Ill. — The Lawrence University baseball team fell 4–2 to Millikin University on Sunday morning at Workman Baseball Field.
Millikin jumped out to an early lead in the opening inning. Carder Reich delivered an RBI single to score Leyton Ivers, and a sacrifice fly from Sam Bushur brought home Ty Cribbett to give the Big Blue a 2–0 advantage. Millikin added another run in the third inning when Cribbett drove in Ivers with a groundout to extend the lead to 3–0.
Lawrence broke through in the fifth inning. Myles Brincks reached base and later scored on an RBI single to left field by William Zatkowski to cut the deficit to 3–1.
Millikin answered in the bottom half of the inning as Pete Britton doubled down the left-field line to bring home Ivers and push the lead to 4–1.
The Vikings chipped away again in the eighth inning. Nathan Depew doubled to start the frame and eventually scored on an RBI groundout by Tate Hartlaub, trimming the margin to 4–2. Lawrence threatened late but could not push another run across.
Lawrence finished with eight hits in the contest, led by Hartlaub with two hits and an RBI. Zatkowski added a hit and an RBI, while Brincks and Depew each recorded doubles for the Vikings.
On the mound, Malachi Ross started for Lawrence and struck out six over five innings. Nathan Zumbrunnen provided a strong relief effort, allowing just one hit while striking out five across three scoreless innings.
