Vikings Split with Monmouth, Bounce Back with Game Two Win

Green Bay, Wisconsin — The Lawrence University softball team split a Midwest Conference doubleheader with Monmouth on Sunday, dropping game one before bouncing back with a strong 5-2 victory in the nightcap.

Game One – Monmouth 12, Lawrence 3

Monmouth came out fast in the opener, scoring six runs in the first inning and adding to the lead over the next two frames to take control early. Lawrence continued to compete and broke through in the fifth inning, plating three runs. Gillian Guerriero delivered an RBI double, Isabella Alfaro followed with an RBI single, and Kylan Arndt added another RBI to account for the Vikings' offense. Guerriero led Lawrence with two hits, while Alfaro and Arndt each drove in a run as part of a nine-hit effort. Despite the late push, Monmouth's early offensive surge proved too much as Lawrence fell 12-3 in game one.

Game Two – Lawrence 5, Monmouth 2

Lawrence responded in the second game with a complete performance, using a big first inning and strong pitching to secure the split. The Vikings scored three runs in the opening frame behind RBI doubles from Gillian Guerriero and Callie Rozak, along with a sacrifice fly from Isabella Alfaro. Zoe Doherty added to the lead with a solo home run in the third inning, and Alfaro picked up her second RBI of the game on another sacrifice fly to extend the advantage to 5-0.

Lawrence finished with nine hits in the nightcap, with Doherty, Guerriero, and Callie Rozak each recording multi-hit games. In the circle, Georgia Sedlack delivered a strong complete-game effort, allowing just two unearned runs on six hits while striking out six to earn the win. Monmouth pushed across two runs in the fifth inning, but the Vikings held firm the rest of the way to close out the 5-2 victory.
