Lawrence Comes Up Short in Competitive Clash with Luther

Clermont, Florida – The Lawrence University softball team battled back after an early deficit but ultimately fell 12-7 to Luther College on Friday afternoon in Florida action.

Luther came out swinging in the opening inning, erupting for seven runs to take early control of the contest. The Vikings answered with two runs in the bottom half, highlighted by an RBI single from Kylan Arndt that brought Lawrence back within striking distance.

Despite the early punch from Luther, Lawrence continued to battle and showed resilience throughout the game. The Vikings mounted their biggest rally in the fifth inning, plating four runs to cut the deficit to 12-6. Anitza Gutierrez drove in a run with a single, while Callie Rozak and Lillian Guidry each delivered RBI hits as Lawrence strung together timely offense to shift momentum.

Zoe Doherty led the offensive effort with a standout performance, going 4-for-5 with a double and an RBI at the top of the lineup. Kylan Arndt added three hits and an RBI, while Gutierrez scored twice and reached base multiple times as part of an 11-hit showing for the Vikings.

Lawrence added one more run in the seventh on an RBI double from Doherty, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome.

In the circle, Kylan Arndt provided steady relief, working 6.2 innings after the opening frame and helping settle the game as the Vikings worked their way back into contention.
