Vikings Drop Doubleheader to Ripon in MWC Action

Appleton, Wisconsin — Lawrence faced a tough Midwest Conference test on Saturday, dropping both games of a doubleheader to Ripon, falling 6-1 in Game 1 and 8-0 in Game 2.

In Game 1, Ripon jumped out quickly, scoring twice in the first inning and adding two more in the second to take early control. The Red Hawks continued to apply pressure, building a 6-0 lead through five innings.

Lawrence broke through in the sixth inning when Avery Chilson drove in Zoe Doherty with a sacrifice fly, but that would be the lone run of the game for the Vikings. Ripon's pitching limited Lawrence to just two hits while striking out 14.

Game 2 saw Ripon use a big third inning to create separation. The Red Hawks erupted for seven runs in the frame, turning a 1-0 game into an 8-0 advantage.

Lawrence collected seven hits in the contest, with Zoe Doherty leading the way with a perfect 3-for-3 performance at the plate. Callie Rozak added a double, while multiple Vikings contributed base hits, but Lawrence was unable to push a run across.

Kylan Arndt got the start in Game 2, while Avery Chilson provided relief work, but the early offensive surge from Ripon proved to be the difference.
