Lake Forest, Ill. — Lawrence dropped both ends of a Midwest Conference doubleheader at Lake Forest on Sunday, falling 13-5 in the opener and 8-2 in the nightcap.
Lawrence came out aggressive to start the day, jumping on the board in the first inning of Game 1. Anitza Gutierrez sparked the rally with her speed on the bases, and Callie Rozak delivered the big swing, driving in two runs with a double to give the Vikings an early 2-0 lead.
Lake Forest answered immediately, putting up four runs in the bottom half of the inning and adding another four-run frame in the third to take control. The Vikings continued to battle and trimmed the deficit in the fourth. Isabella Alfaro knocked in a run with a single before Rozak came through again, launching a two-run home run to cut the lead to 8-5.
Rozak led the offensive effort in the opener, finishing 3-for-3 with four RBIs, while Gutierrez matched her with a 3-for-3 performance and constant pressure on the basepaths. Despite the push, Lake Forest responded with five additional runs across the fourth and fifth innings to secure the 13-5 win.
In Game 2, Lawrence again set the tone early, manufacturing two runs in the first inning without the benefit of a hit. Gutierrez and Zoe Doherty used patience and aggressive baserunning to plate both runs and give the Vikings a quick 2-0 advantage.
The Foresters answered in the second inning before breaking the game open in the third with a five-run surge, using a mix of power and timely hitting to flip the momentum. Lake Forest added two more runs in the fifth to extend the lead.
Lawrence worked several opportunities throughout the game, drawing seven walks, but was limited to two hits in the contest. Doherty recorded a double, while Callie Rozak added the other hit as the Vikings continued to battle at the plate.
