Green Bay, Wisconsin-- Lawrence University baseball put together a strong offensive showing but couldn't contain a late surge from Illinois College, falling 14-8 on Saturday afternoon.
The Vikings came out swinging early, responding immediately after Illinois College plated two runs in the opening frame. AJ Desantiago delivered the big answer with a two-run home run to tie the game, bringing in Myles Brincks and energizing the Lawrence dugout.
Lawrence kept the pressure on in the second inning, putting up three runs to take a 5-2 lead. Brincks added an RBI single, Desantiago lifted a sacrifice fly, and Dylan Keelan drove in another run after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Illinois College answered in a big way in the third and fifth innings, combining for nine runs to swing momentum. A five-run fifth inning proved to be the difference as the visitors built an 11-6 advantage.
Lawrence continued to battle offensively, finishing with 14 hits on the day. Brincks led the charge with a three-hit, two-RBI performance, while Desantiago added two hits and three RBIs. Ben Gutowski also recorded three hits, and CJ Filipek chipped in an RBI.
