DUBUQUE, Iowa — The Lawrence University women's tennis team opened its 2026 season Saturday with a pair of nonconference matches against Loras College and the University of Dubuque.
Loras 1, Lawrence 0
Lawrence picked up a victory at No. 1 doubles, but Loras captured the final two matches to take the doubles point and the 1-0 victory.
The Vikings' top pairing of Clara Hills and Logan Kane got Lawrence off to a strong start with a convincing 6-1 victory over Saydie Roling and Clara LeConte.
Loras answered at No. 3 doubles as Zoe Strunz and Scarlett Hay topped Arisa McCullough and Madelena Priest 6-3.
The Duhawks then secured the match at No. 2 doubles. Noor Kassas and Zara Stoltzfus defeated Sky Shinohara and Tess McGlenn 6-4 to give Loras the deciding second doubles victory.Â
Dubuque 6, Lawrence 1
Lawrence started strongly in doubles against Dubuque as Hills and Kane earned their second victory of the day at the No. 1 spot. The Vikings duo defeated Salalee Seejong and Molly Jex 6-3.
Dubuque responded with wins in the other two doubles matches to claim the doubles point. Sarah Wilde and Jayda Floyd defeated Shinohara and McGlenn 6-0 at No. 2, while Adriana Benavente and Maddie Brosnahan topped McCullough and Priest 6-0 at No. 3.
Hills continued her strong day when the match shifted to singles and picked up Lawrence's lone singles victory. Playing at No. 1, Hills won the opening set 6-0 against Jex and held a 2-1 lead in the second set when Jex retired, giving Hills the victory.
Dubuque captured the remaining five singles matches in straight sets.
At No. 2, Seejong defeated Kane 6-2, 7-5, while Wilde topped McGlenn 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3. Benavente earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory over McCullough at No. 4, and Floyd defeated Shinohara 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5.
Rachel Pofahl rounded out the Lawrence singles lineup at No. 6 and battled Brosnahan before falling 6-4, 6-3.
