APPLETON, Wis. — Grayson Ogren continued his torrid start to the season with a hat trick Thursday as the Lawrence University men's soccer team pulled away for a 5-1 victory over Grace Christian University at Banta Bowl.
The Vikings wasted little time taking control. Pablo Silveira opened the scoring just 5:12 into the match off an assist from Emiliano Garcia Fadanalli. Only one minute later, Ogren struck for his first goal of the day with Isaac Newcomb providing the assist, putting Lawrence ahead 2-0 after just 6:12.
Grace Christian cut the margin to 2-1 in the 20th minute, but Lawrence never surrendered the lead.
Ogren restored the two-goal cushion at the 54:20 mark, finishing a setup from Garcia Fadanalli to make it 3-1. Lawrence then delivered two more goals in the closing minutes to put the match away.
Chuck Schlichtmann scored his first goal of the season at 87:15 off an assist from Quill Tegenfeldt-Pfohman. Ogren completed the hat trick just 1:24 later, burying his third goal of the match off Garcia Fadanalli's third assist of the day.
Ogren finished with three goals on six shots, putting five attempts on target. Garcia Fadanalli added three assists while generating four shots of his own. Silveira and Schlichtmann accounted for Lawrence's other two goals.
The Vikings dominated the attacking numbers, finishing with an 18-4 advantage in shots and an 11-2 edge in shots on goal. Lawrence also generated seven corner kicks. Cristian Puebla went the full 90 minutes in goal and made one save as the Vikings improved to 3-0-1.
