DE PERE, Wis. — The Lawrence University men's soccer team answered an early St. Norbert College goal and battled through a physical finish Saturday to earn a 1-1 draw at Schneider Stadium.
St. Norbert grabbed the advantage just 4:51 into the match when Everett Saeger scored off a Hayden Dunn assist, but Lawrence did not allow the early goal to dictate the rest of the afternoon.
The Vikings found their response in the 25th minute. Grayson Ogren helped create the equalizer, setting up Daito Sho for his first goal of the season at 24:13 to bring Lawrence level at 1-1.
Lawrence settled into the match from there and continued to create more going forward after halftime. The Vikings produced five of their seven shots in the second half after managing two in the opening 45 minutes. William Plougmand Mikkelsen finished with a team-high three shots, while Noud Geerdink forced a second-half save and Ogren also generated an attempt as Lawrence searched for the go-ahead score.
Cristian Puebla helped keep the Vikings even at the other end. The Lawrence goalkeeper finished with three saves as St. Norbert put four of its 14 shots on target. The Green Knights held a 5-3 edge in corner kicks, but Lawrence kept the match tied despite sustained pressure from the hosts.
The challenge became even greater in the closing minutes when Lawrence was reduced to 10 players following a red card at 81:08. The Vikings nevertheless defended the final 8:52 without conceding, including surviving a St. Norbert opportunity in the 83rd minute, to secure the road result.
