APPLETON, Wis. — The Lawrence University volleyball team put together a balanced performance Wednesday night, using contributions throughout the lineup to defeat St. Scholastica 25-14, 21-25, 25-22, 25-17 at Alexander Gym.
Lawrence improved to 4-1 with the victory after finishing with 49 kills, 66 digs, 10 service aces and 11 total blocks. The Vikings hit .205 for the match while holding the Saints to a .141 attack percentage.
Three Vikings reached double figures in kills. Bella Van Lannen finished with 16 kills on a .424 hitting percentage, Audrey Weier added 12 kills and Emma Nilson put away 11 while hitting a team-best .444. Norma Glisczinski added five kills and Meg Pfannerstill chipped in three.
Lawrence also received strong production from its setters, with Hallie Neill handing out 24 assists and Ally Corrente adding 18. Aria Wessel paced the back row with 17 digs, Makenna Rettler added 11 and the Vikings committed just two reception errors over the four sets.
The Vikings set the tone immediately, racing out to a commanding advantage on the way to a 25-14 opening-set victory. St. Scholastica answered by taking the second set 25-21, but Lawrence responded in the third.
With the third set tied at 13, the Vikings created separation with a 5-0 run and eventually held off the Saints for a 25-22 victory to regain control of the match.
Lawrence carried that momentum into the fourth. The Vikings jumped ahead 11-2 behind a 7-0 run and never allowed St. Scholastica to recover. Lawrence closed out the night 25-17, with Nilson putting down the match-ending kill.
