APPLETON, Wis. — The Lawrence University women's tennis team opened Midwest Conference play Saturday with a 7-0 loss to Grinnell College.
Clara Hills gave the Vikings their strongest push of the afternoon at No. 1 singles. Hills battled Laurel Buttrick throughout the match before falling 6-3, 7-5, nearly forcing a third set with a strong showing in the second.
At No. 2 singles, Logan Kane took three games in the opening set before Luiza Kohn earned a 6-3, 6-0 victory. Tess McGlenn fell 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3, while Misora Sky Shinohara dropped her match at No. 4. Arisa McCullough battled Addie Persian at No. 5 before falling 6-2, 6-0, and Rachael Pofahl rounded out the singles lineup at No. 6.
Grinnell also swept the three doubles matches to secure the doubles point.
Hills and Kane teamed at the top spot and fell 6-2 to Logan Tom and Marta Gonzalez. McGlenn and Shinohara dropped a 6-1 decision at No. 2, while McCullough and Madelana Priest turned in Lawrence's closest doubles result, taking three games in a 6-3 loss at No. 3.
