Ogren’s four-goal night powers Lawrence past Lakeland in season opener

APPLETON, Wis. — Grayson Ogren scored four goals to lead the Lawrence University men's soccer team to a 5-1 season-opening victory over Lakeland University on Tuesday at Banta Bowl.

Ogren opened the scoring less than seven minutes into the match. Alan McIntosh set up Ogren, who found the net in the seventh minute to give the Vikings an early advantage.

Lawrence doubled its lead in the 31st minute after drawing a foul inside the penalty area. Ogren converted the ensuing penalty kick to send the Vikings into halftime with a 2-0 lead.

Lakeland pulled within one early in the second half. Dunia Wangu scored off an assist from Woodlens Frederic in the 53rd minute to trim Lawrence's advantage to 2-1.

The Vikings responded with three unanswered goals.

Will Mikkelsen set up Ogren's third goal of the night in the 67th minute, completing the hat trick and extending Lawrence's lead to 3-1. Ogren struck again less than two minutes later to collect his fourth goal and push the advantage to 4-1.

Hernandez-Roman capped the scoring in the 72nd minute with his first goal of the season.

Lawrence controlled the second half with sustained pressure, generating six shots and three corner kicks after the break. The Vikings finished with nine shots overall and placed six on goal.

Ogren scored on four of his five attempts. McIntosh and Mikkelsen each finished with an assist.
