Vikings, Blue Devils Play to Draw

MENOMONIE, Wis. — The Lawrence University women's soccer team battled the University of Wisconsin-Stout to a 1-1 draw Tuesday night at Nelson Field.

The Vikings controlled the opening half, outshooting the Blue Devils 7-5 and earning eight corner kicks while holding Wis.-Stout to just one. Lawrence created several early opportunities, including shots from Izzy Robertson, Hannah Kalt, Ava Elders and Kylie Melonis, but Wis.-Stout goalkeeper Kristen Silenzi kept the match scoreless.

Lawrence continued to apply pressure early in the second half, and the Vikings finally broke through in the 54th minute. Kate Noonan delivered a corner kick into the box, and Ava Elders rose to head the ball into the back of the net, giving Lawrence a 1-0 lead at the 53:53 mark. It was Elders' fourth goal of the season.

Wis.-Stout answered just over eight minutes later when Tessa Pagel assisted Alli LaVick on the equalizing goal at 62:43. LaVick's goal, her first of the season, pulled the Blue Devils even at 1-1.

The Vikings continued to generate chances following the equalizer, with Maddie Schellinger having a shot blocked and Lucia Pierce-Haig sending a shot wide in the second half. Lawrence finished the match with a 13-10 advantage in shots and a 10-2 edge in corner kicks.
