RIVER FOREST, Ill. — The Lawrence University women's tennis team turned in a dominant all-around performance Friday, sweeping Concordia University Chicago 7-0 at the CUC Courts.
Lawrence set the tone in doubles, winning all three matches to secure the opening point. Clara Hills and Logan Kane got the Vikings started at No. 1 doubles with a 6-2 victory over Amelia Engelman and Amirah Shakir.
At No. 2 doubles, Tess McGlenn and Sky Shinohara battled through the closest doubles match of the day, edging Brianna Bentz and Hannah Upole 7-6. Arisa McCullough and Madelena Priest then completed the doubles sweep with a 6-2 victory at No. 3. Doubles finished in order of Nos. 1, 2 and 3.
The Vikings carried that momentum into singles, where they won all six matches to finish off the sweep.
Hills was flawless at the top of the lineup, defeating Engelman 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles without dropping a game. Kane was nearly as dominant at No. 2, taking down Bentz 6-0, 6-1.
McGlenn kept Lawrence rolling at No. 3 with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Shakir, giving the Vikings another straight-set win near the top of the lineup.
The most competitive singles match came at No. 4. Shinohara took the opening set 6-1 before Hannah Upole responded with a 6-1 win in the second. Shinohara regained control in the deciding match tiebreaker, winning 10-5 to complete the victory.
McCullough followed with a strong performance at No. 5, defeating Abigail Krueger 6-1, 6-0. Rachael Pofahl closed out the singles sweep at No. 6 with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Sarah Gustafson. Singles finished in order from No. 1 through No. 6
