Prior to his time at Chicago, Flowers was the defensive graduate assistant coach at Eastern Michigan University for two years. Flowers played college football at the University of Illinois from 2007 through 2009 and at Illinois State University in 2010. He was named to the Missouri Valley Football Conference All-Newcomer Team in 2010.
Also a baseball standout, Flowers was selected in the fifth round of the 2002 June Amateur Draft by the Detroit Tigers. Flowers played four seasons (2002-05) in the minor league systems of the Tigers and Chicago Cubs and also played the 2006 season in the independent Frontier League.
A native of Maywood, Ill., Flowers was an all-state selection in both football and baseball while starring at Walther Lutheran High School. Flowers was named the Chicago Sun-Times Male Athlete of the Year in 2002.
