WINONA, Minn. -- Lawrence University standout Josh Koepplinger scored two goals Wednesday, and the Vikings battled to a 2-2 overtime tie with Saint Mary's University in a nonconference game at Saint Mary's Arena.

Lawrence goaltender Evan Cline was outstanding in net and stopped a season-high 41 shots for the Vikings (4-6-1).

Lawrence got on the board while on the penalty kill midway through the first period. After Lawrence's Mikkel Joehnk was sent off for hooking, Koepplinger scored his first career short-handed goal at the 10:07 mark for a 1-0 edge. Lane King and Tomas Vesely picked up assists on the goal.

The Cardinals (3-8-2) tied it at 1-1 on Kellen Wasell's goal at the 7:51 mark of the second, but the Vikings would take the lead back just over eight minutes later. After Saint Mary's Nick Turner was whistled for hooking at the 15:31 mark, Koepplinger cashed in on the power play. Zach Satalino and King picked up assists on Koepplinger's goal at the 16:06 mark that put the Vikings up 2-1.

Lawrence went 1-for-3 on the power play, and Saint Mary's finished 0-for-9.

Saint Mary's tied it at 2-2 on Chad Cesarz's goal at the 6:27 mark of the third. Lawrence preserved the tie by killing off five penalties, including a five-minute major, over the final 13-plus minutes of regulation.

In the five-minute overtime, Lawrence had two shots on goal and the Cardinals had three. Al Rogers finished with 13 saves to pick up the tie for Saint Mary's.
